A tough break hit former Texas tight end Gunnar Helm at the 2025 NFL Combine. During one of his 40-yard dash attempts, Helm false-started and ended up injuring his ankle. Despite the pain, he powered through the drills and skills challenges.
Unfortunately, the injury limited his performance, resulting in a 4.84-second 40-yard dash—a disappointing time for an athletic tight end like Helm.
Afterward, he underwent an MRI, which confirmed a sprained ankle. Helm later shared photos of the bruising and swelling, giving fans a glimpse of the extent of his injury.
Will Helm Run the 40 Again at Texas’ Pro Day?
Despite the setback, Helm isn’t done yet. Texas will hold its Pro Day on March 26, giving draft prospects one final opportunity to impress scouts ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Helm, determined to improve his numbers, has confirmed that he will participate in the event and rerun the 40-yard dash to showcase his full potential.

Due to his injury, Helm’s performance suffered, earning him an overall grade of 73, ranking him 10th among tight ends. His athleticism score took the biggest hit, dropping to 53, which placed him 20th at his position.
With a healthier ankle, Helm hopes to boost his stock at Texas’ Pro Day.
