Scottish judoka Rachel Tytler, born on June 25, 1997, has made significant strides in her judo career, notably securing a bronze medal in the women’s -78 kg category at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
In a strategic move to enhance her training and gain international experience, Tytler relocated from Scotland to Madrid, Spain, in late 2024. This decision was influenced by the opportunity to train with a broader range of athletes and immerse herself in a different judo culture. She expressed enthusiasm about embracing the Spanish culture and language while finding familiarity in the universal aspects of judo training.
During her time in Madrid, Tytler has actively participated in various competitions. Notably, she competed in the Madrid European Open on June 8, 2024, and secured a 5th place finish at the Dubrovnik Senior European Cup on April 6, 2024.
Looking ahead, Tytler has set her sights on the 2026 Commonwealth Games, scheduled to be held in Glasgow from July 23 to August 2, 2026. The inclusion of judo in the 2026 Games has been confirmed, providing Tytler with a significant goal as she continues her training and competition schedule.
Beyond her athletic endeavors, Tytler has been involved in coaching and personal training, offering online programs to clients. She also indulges in artistic pursuits, such as painting, which she finds to be a relaxing and creative outlet alongside her rigorous training regimen.
