Chicago Sky star Angel Reese fired back at critics targeting WNBA players and women in sports. In a recent episode of her podcast, Unapologetically Angel, the former LSU standout made a bold statement addressing the negative stereotypes surrounding female athletes. Joined by fellow WNBA player DiJonai Carrington, Reese offered an honest and unfiltered reaction to public perceptions of women in basketball.
In honor of Women’s Month, the Sky forward and the Dallas Wings guard discussed the rigid expectations placed on female players. “They say WNBA players are too manly, not feminine enough,” Reese stated. “We don’t dress cute enough. They don’t want to watch a bunch of little boys running around the court.”
Both players expressed frustration over the impossible standards imposed by the public. “Now we are doing too much,” Reese continued, prompting Carrington to add, “So it’s like… pick.” The Sky star also pushed back against criticism that WNBA players are “too masculine,” citing comments about their appearance, such as “long shorts,” “wearing braids,” and even dating fellow players.
Carrington playfully responded to Reese’s dating remark but quickly dismissed the broader negative claims. “But the rest of it is not true. When we do the opposite, we’re the problem,” she pointed out.
Their remarks resonated with many fans, who took to social media to voice their support. “Facts!! They be hating for no reason,” one user wrote. Another commented, “Femme, but don’t let the lipstick fool you.” A third added, “This is the Golden Era of women’s sports.”
