FAYETTEVILLE — The experience and coaching background of University of Arkansas secondary coach Nick Perry have caught the attention of 2026 defensive back prospect Xavier Harmon, putting the Razorbacks in strong contention for his commitment.
Perry, a former Alabama defensive back, helped lead the Crimson Tide to national championships in 2011 and 2012 before short stints with the Baltimore Ravens and Philadelphia Eagles. He transitioned into coaching, spending time on Alabama’s staff from 2017-20 before moving to the Atlanta Falcons, where he served as an assistant defensive backs coach in 2021-22 and as an assistant wide receivers coach in 2023. Perry most recently worked with the Seattle Seahawks as a defensive assistant before joining Arkansas.
Harmon, a 6-2, 185-pound defensive back from Conroe, Texas, has scheduled an official visit to Arkansas from May 30 to June 1.
“Coach Perry has an impressive background,” Harmon said. “He played at Alabama, coached some of the best DBs in the league, and has been successful at every level. Knowing he has that experience, I want to see it for myself and understand where I’d be if I chose Arkansas.”
Harmon shared that Perry has been highly complimentary of his skills.
“He told me he loves my game,” Harmon said. “He’s coached a lot of players with my size and skill set—things he can’t teach. He’s eager to have me up there, and we’ve had some really genuine conversations. He’s made it clear the staff is excited about me.”
In addition to his trip to Fayetteville, Harmon has scheduled official visits to Oklahoma State, TCU, SMU, Stanford, Kansas State, and Utah.
The four major recruiting services are still evaluating Harmon, but Rivals has already rated him as a three-star prospect and the No. 11 nickel back in the 2026 class.
With his size and versatility, Harmon is suited to play either cornerback or safety. He has also been in contact with Arkansas co-defensive coordinator Marcus Woodson, who coaches the safeties.
“Wherever they see me fitting best and wherever I can contribute,” Harmon said of his potential position with the Razorbacks.
A strong support system has fueled Harmon’s determination to succeed.
“My parents have invested in me, and my whole family has sacrificed their time, effort, and money for me to get here,” Harmon said. “I won’t let it go to waste. I know I have to give my all every day and make the same sacrifices they have.”
His family’s military background has instilled discipline in him. His father served in the Navy, while his three sisters and brother served in the Air Force. His mother works as an immigration officer.
With a 3.7 GPA, Harmon takes his academics seriously.
“Coming from a military family, I prioritize my education,” Harmon said. “That’s what will take me further in life. I always make sure I’m handling my schoolwork.”
His father has also emphasized the importance of humility.
“I’ve never been the flashy type,” Harmon said. “I stay low-key, work hard, and focus on what I need to do to reach the top.”
As a junior, Harmon recorded 13 pass breakups and a recovered fumble. He plans to finalize his college decision before the start of his senior season.
