The Celtics face significant challenges in upgrading their roster. They are over the second apron, which severely limited their ability to make trades at the deadline.
In fact, their only trade was a cost-cutting move—sending Jaden Springer to Houston to save on luxury tax and open a roster spot. While they did sign Torrey Craig in the buyout market, it was only possible because he was available at the veteran’s minimum. Free agency this offseason won’t be a viable option for Boston either.
With one of the most expensive rosters in the league, the Celtics’ primary path to improving next season is through the NBA Draft. However, given their success, they won’t have high draft picks, selecting late in the first round and early in the second.
According to Bleacher Report, Boston is projected to use their second-round pick on Maxime Raynaud, a center from Stanford.
