Ty Gibbs’ struggles in the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series season took another unfortunate turn as his High Limits Sprint Car debut ended in a violent crash. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver, who has yet to find success this season with only one top-20 finish in four races, flipped multiple times on the first lap of the A-Main event at The Bullring in Las Vegas.
Despite impressing fans by advancing to the feature race, Gibbs’ night ended in a frightening wreck that saw his No. 84 car tumble down the backstretch. Fortunately, he emerged unscathed. However, the incident raises questions about his participation in extracurricular racing, especially in light of his early-season Cup Series struggles.
Interestingly, Gibbs’ JGR teammate Christopher Bell, a known dirt racing ace, opted out of the event due to concerns about potential injury and the difficulty of securing a backup driver for Sunday’s Cup race. Bell’s decision, made in coordination with his crew chief rather than mandated by the team, highlights the calculated risks drivers take when competing outside of NASCAR.
With Joe Gibbs having only recently eased restrictions on his drivers competing in non-NASCAR events, his grandson’s crash could prompt a reconsideration of that policy.
