Even with the arrival of a new head coach, Indiana basketball must remain vigilant in retaining its current commits and signees. Often, recruits choose a program based on the coaching staff, particularly the head coach. When there is a coaching change, commits may start exploring other options.
Darian DeVries is widely considered a strong hire for the Indiana Hoosiers, but that does not mean all of Mike Woodson’s recruits will automatically stay. Other programs are already showing interest in some of Indiana’s commits, including Harun Zrno.
Harun Zrno Draws Attention from Other Programs
Before announcing his retirement, Mike Woodson secured the commitment of Harun Zrno, a highly regarded 6-foot-7 Bosnian shooting forward known for his court vision. This was a major recruiting win for Woodson, and some believed it could have helped him keep his job for another year.
However, with Woodson gone, multiple schools are now pursuing Zrno. According to reports, Miami, Penn State, Maryland, and Ohio State have all reached out to the Indiana commit. Three of those schools are fellow Big Ten programs, and Zrno’s agent has confirmed that the prospect is planning visits with each of them.
Indiana’s 2025 Recruiting Class and DeVries’ Focus
Zrno is one of two players from the Class of 2025 recruited under Woodson, with the other being Trent Sisley. Unlike Zrno, Sisley has already voiced support for DeVries and is expected to remain with the Hoosiers. However, Zrno’s willingness to entertain interest from other schools raises concerns about a potential decommitment.
While DeVries will bring in players of his own—including his son, Tucker DeVries—it remains crucial for Indiana to keep Zrno in the program. Securing his commitment should be one of DeVries’ top priorities in the early days of his tenure.
