Iowa Hawkeyes center Owen Freeman has committed to transfer to Creighton University. Freeman, a 6-foot-10 sophomore and the 2024 Big Ten Freshman of the Year, averaged 16.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks per game this past season. His sophomore year was limited to 19 games due to a finger injury.
Freeman entered the transfer portal following the dismissal of long-time Iowa head coach Fran McCaffery and the subsequent hiring of Ben McCollum from Drake University.
Freeman’s departure is part of a broader trend, with several Iowa players entering the transfer portal or committing elsewhere. Notably, guard Josh Dix is reportedly transferring to Kentucky. Additionally, former Drake standout Bennett Stirtz is transferring to Iowa, following coach McCollum.
As the top-ranked center in the transfer portal, Freeman’s move to Creighton is expected to significantly bolster the Bluejays’ roster. Creighton recently concluded a 25-11 season, advancing to the round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament after upsetting Louisville but losing to Auburn.
